West Haven man gets prison in tobacco-related tax fraud scheme

NEW HAVEN — A West Haven man who was part of a scheme to defraud the state of more than $5.8 million in taxes on imported tobacco products was sentenced Thursday to 18 months in prison, authorities said in a release. Pavan Vaswani, 40, a citizen of India residing in West Haven, also was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Janet C.
